A Week to Remember: Celebrating the NIC Yorkshire County Championships

As an incredible week of competition came to a close, the NIC Yorkshire County Championships once again demonstrated why it is one of the most celebrated events in the Yorkshire tennis calendar.

For seven days, the courts were alive with passion, determination and sporting excellence as almost 500 competitors came together to compete across a wide range of age groups and categories. From the youngest rising stars to seasoned county champions, every player contributed to an unforgettable celebration of tennis.

The Championships were also a powerful reminder that tennis is a sport for everyone. Throughout the week, the competition proudly showcased wheelchair tennis and visually impaired tennis, highlighting the remarkable skill, resilience and competitive spirit of athletes who continue to inspire the tennis community. Their performances embodied everything the Championships stand for, inclusion, opportunity and excellence.

Finals Day provided a spectacular conclusion to the tournament, with some exceptional performances across the courts.

Congratulations to Neo Hodkinson, who enjoyed a phenomenal Championships, lifting the 18&U Boys’ Singles, 16&U Boys’ Singles, and 18&U Boys’ Doubles titles alongside Torsten Stephenson.

Roberta Gaskell also enjoyed an outstanding week, competing in three finals and capturing the 18&U Girls’ Singles title, while Emmanuella Idemudia finished the Championships as a double champion after winning both the 16&U and 14&U Girls’ Singles titles.

The Open Women’s Singles title went to Elena Bompieri, whose quality and experience shone through in an impressive final’s performance.

In the boys’ events, Hugo Asmussen claimed a superb double by winning both the 11&U and 12&U Boys’ Singles titles, while Jordan Reed Thomas successfully defended his Men’s Singles crown, demonstrating the consistency and class that have made him one of Yorkshire’s leading players.
