Helping Bring Our Community Together Through Food

This week, members of the NIC Services Group distribution team from our Nottingham and Derby sites stepped away from their usual day-to-day roles to volunteer with FareShare Midlands at its Nottingham centre.

Representing NIC on the day were colleagues from across our client sites: Michael Bee, Amanda Bogle, Anna Rekas, Sue Cooke, Wendy Dean and Kyle Balnius.

Instead of carrying out their usual responsibilities of maintaining hygiene standards across client distribution sites, the team spent the day supporting FareShare’s vital operations by packing, picking and sorting food products destined for local charities and community groups.

Together, the NIC team helped contribute to the distribution of around 2,250 meals for people across the East Midlands who rely on this essential support.
FareShare Midlands is the region’s largest food redistribution charity, rescuing good-to-eat surplus food and ensuring it reaches people experiencing food insecurity. In the past year alone, the charity redistributed more than 5,000 tonnes of food, the equivalent of 11 million meals, helping around 60,000 people every week.

That food goes on to support local charities and community organisations, which transform it into nutritious meals, affordable shopping options and wider practical support for vulnerable people, including financial guidance, mental health support and housing advice.

Michael Bee, Distribution Account Manager for NIC said:

“It was a really positive and rewarding day for everyone involved. FareShare is a charity that means a lot to me personally, and one that we have proudly supported over the years. As we continue to grow our contracts with clients, we also want to expand the way we support local FareShare centres close to the sites we service. We are already exploring opportunities to support FareShare in Warrington through our latest contracts across Liverpool and Manchester.”

Supporting local communities remains an important part of life at NIC Services Group, and initiatives like this demonstrate how small actions can make a meaningful difference where it matters most.
